Our Mission
The Play Posse's mission is to advocate, educate and facilitate free play for all children.
We strive to provide opportunities for self-directed free play to children and communities, and to educate parents and institutions on the value of free play!
Who we are
The Play Posse is a non-profit that is currently being supported by the Community Resource Center of Stanwood Camano as our fiduciary sponsor.
Research shows our children are missing developmental milestones that are critical to their healthy development because of lack of free play.
We need to come together, as a Posse, to actively work to change this. We must be Champions for Childhood!
Our Vision
Reimagining Recess
Schoolyard Play Pods
Play pods contain open-ended "loose parts” that Kids can play with at recess time.
Pop-up Play Days
Organizing pop up adventure Play Days at both indoor and outdoor Community Spaces.
About
Having worked directly with children and their families for over 30 years, Kim Eggenberger started to notice play opportunities for children were disappearing.
The current academic push-down has been accepted nationwide. You now hear: "Kindergarten is the new 1st grade"....What?!
Stress and anxiety in children, as young as preschool, is on the rise. Because of this, both physical and mental milestones are not developing as they normally would.
"I have been waiting for the pendulum to swing back to "normal", hoping for children from this generation to have the same experiences my own children had........still waiting.......So I decided, if not me, who?
We are striving to build a fantastic team *posse* of people, who are like minded, and I feel if we all take action, stand up and fight for our children's rights, we will have more power to restore their right to Play. To be outside. To climb a tree. To build a fort. To have... time.....to just PLAY."
